These are baking potato plants, these came up from last year, so I transplanted them to the potato bed! The purple flowered plants are a red potato, my dads favorite!
Those potato plants are beautiful! Is there anyway to tell how successful a crop of potatos is going to be by looking at the plants above ground, or do you just have to wait until harvest?
I do use a potash on my potato beds (to much nitrogen is bad for them), put my trench in with "Roots alive" , pine needles to keep scab away, the potato eye covered with pine needles, soil, more "roots alive" and mound my hill, I do put them about 8-10 inches down! My third year planting potatoes, I find them delish and forget about store bought, home grown is best!
Boy, does that sound like a lot of work! I doubt my back would allow that, or that I could get Allen to dig a trench for me. How many potatos can you expect on each plant?
since I o raised beds, the dirt is never packed, though it is some effort, I do pace myself and take a long hot shower when finished to loosen up the muscles I forgot I had. each plant will yeild 7-12 potatoes
