New Old Wing Chair!

So, I was able to acquire this beauty last December after falling in love with it at work. Since the shop was moving to a smaller place, my boss offered this to me for a deal to good to pass up! Mr man had to clean out our barn recently and Chairie came into the porch! Well, since I had the fabric and some 'extra' time, I got to it! I probably pulled 1000 tacks from this as well as dirty rotted MOHAIR velvet that was almost 100 years old! This was original upholstery! Even the arms are sprung. Thankfully, the springs were still intact and did not need retying or replacing. I left the old straw and cotton batting and placed a layer of dacron over it. Then stapled the fabrics onto it! In some places I used welting, and I did use cardboard welt tack to keep it all even. I did replace the cushion with a foam wrapped with dacron. In the future I will probably replace that with a foam feather wrap cushion.
Chairie has made it to the living room, but the wood rack had to be moved out, as well as a few other things. It fits in perfectly! What a comfy piece! Mr man and Jackson love it!

Grilled Parmesan Tomato

These were yummy! I grated some fresh parmesan cheese and chopped fresh basil, parsley and oregano from the herb garden! Topped the tomato halves with the mixture and a sprinkle of salt and put them under the broiler for a few minutes! Great with a side salad, and a slice of crusty bread!
Matt and Bruce stopped in for something while on patrol and they also had one, they smelled so yummy!

Last of Summers harvest...almost

So we have Butternut squash, zucchini, tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, peppers, and a screwy looking acorn squash in the last 2 frames. The next is a pot full of beets and greens, the last is a trug full of potatoes the nice thing about the butternut squash and the potatoes, they were volunteers this year! Left over baby potatoes not harvested last year as well as squash seeds from the compost that made it to the garden in spring!

New Summer Bag!

I decided I wanted a new bag and fell in love with a bag my daughter in law has, so i did what any mother in law would do, I copied the style but changed up the fabric. Susan's bag is a ticking stripe which I love, as you can see, mine is a floral. I also lined this bag with a complimenting fabric still used leather for accents and instead of a toggle I used an old big button! Other than my handle being a bit longer, they look similar!
I have enough for one more of the same, $75- is the asking price. Just send an message through the blog, thanks~

mom

After months of illness mom has passed. We gave her our all, we sat bedside we joked when she was able, we wept when she was not. She gave us a ride through life, through the ups and downs, the good the bad and even the ugly. Mom, what could one say, rock candy in a glass on the counter, raw cheesecake, licorice gravy, krischicki, bomb, black bread and keilbasa, tapioca with peaches, crackle. Learning to make jelly and jam and apple butter! Potato pancakes, stuffed cabbage, chicken and rice
Learning to knit and crochet' from her hands, brushing her hair.
Bologne on the walls, diaper pure in the bathroom, running through fresh paste waxed floors, hearing her weep because of that. Making tents with all the blankets in the backyard with mom, taking walks to the little store with mom, mud pies, my 'to go ti go' learning different kids songs, NO ONE ELSE KNEW! visiting the next door neighbors, her city home in Maspeth, her country home in Farmingville the stories of her old people, her parents, her ability to 'collect'! Teaching me to cook and encouraged me to do so,wait till your father gets home, nothing happened but we waited each time! LOL! Camping, fishing, apple picking, pumpkin carving, watching her learn to ride a bike, gee that was hard to watch! She decided it was not for her! Her brown thumb! Bringing home cats, telling dad we brought them home! Coffee on a Sunday morning, tea at night, her legal jobs she loved, she should have been a lawyer,
you could ask her anything while she slept, she would always say yes! mom was a card, there re many many more things to say, maybe later, right now though , I love you mom , will miss your voice on the phone, see you in awhile...

cutie pie!

a little guy whole stole my heart! hi Carson!

~Chocolates~

These are some of the chocolates hubby made for the cake! I was very very thankful for his help! It truly was a cake touched by many hands! What is that saying about too many cooks...Some of the help were getting a bit touchy, just sayin'!

single irish chain quilt

A single Irish chain! Though it is not clear, click on the pics and zoom in. Each plain large yellow square had the outline of a farm animal on it. A cow, cat dog, chicken, duck, pig and donkey are stitched for an effect! Homemade gifts are the best! Flannel on the back for softness, my tag put in the corner on the back! Happy baby~

Baby Salmon Shower cake!

My friends daughter is having a baby and she had asked me to make the cake! After some brainstorming we decided to mix it up and use a fish colored like a salmon because her daughters last name is Salmon! She insisted on Happy Labor day against my wishes, but it was her cake! ( Everyone loved the creativity but could figure out the labor day thing!) We used a spray food color for the water effect and then used fondant which we colored with a food color gel.
My husband made the chocolates and my daughter in law finished it off with her touch of scales and coral! I used a scratch carrot cake and cream cheese frosting. The trick was to make the cake 2 days ahead of time and put it in the freezer to avoid crumbing. we then put it back in the freezer to stay fresh and for easier transport (one hour away)!

~March Ice Storm~

These are some of the pics I took while walking the grounds here at home. We were out of power and it was very very surreal! There is still ice on the trees 3 days later and we are looking at another small storm to come in tonight! A lot of the white pine will need removal due to heavy damage!

~Our 2010 Christmas Tree~

After 34 years we did white lights! I actually bought them years ago, but never could use them until this year! They were a hit and our tree was just a bit more beautiful! I love everything about Christmas!

~Christmas Cards~

I do enjoy making these, a bit more meaningful to be able to personalize your individual cards!
